Restore and Boost Energy before Workout or Yoga Practice

Restore and Boost Energy before Workout or Yoga Practice

Generally, yoga practices often act as an elixir for restoring energy and do wonders for health. Yet there are times when even the most energetic practitioners also suffer from fatigue while on the mat. Reasons could be many for low energy during yoga-like stress, overwork, lack of rest, a poor diet, digestive problems, toxicity (ama), a lot more to name but a few. If you are someone experiencing fatigue or poor stamina in your daily lifestyle, then consider the following ayurvedic herbs in daily routine for nutritional support.

More about Rasayanas – The first step is to restore lost energy reserves with ayurvedic herbs known as rasayanas, or restorative and powerful herbs. The ancient practice of Rasayana is one of the eight branches of Ayurveda and emphasizes the "high road" of disease prevention, rejuvenation, and a slowing down of the aging process rather than the "low road" of remedying an illness after it arises.

Usually, herbal rasayanas are best to restore the deepest reserves of prana which is otherwise known as Ojas, and is crucial to the immune system and also necessary to cultivate before any yoga practitioner can feel the sense of power that comes from having an abundance of active energy. Two great Rasayana herbs are Amalaki and haritaki that are found in the popular rejuvenating formula Triphala.

Amalaki & Haritaki – Both these help in increasing Ojas and are strong rejuvenatives. Amalaki is the primary ingredient in the popular Rasayana formula chyavanprash and is also one of the highest known natural sources of vitamin C. Haritaki is said to be the herb represented in the right hand of the Medicine Buddha and is also depicted in sacred Tibetan art. Both these herbs are highly nutritive, cleansing, and mildly laxative.

Important Note – Pregnant women should not take amalaki or haritaki.

Ashwagandha – Perhaps the best-known rejuvenating herb in Ayurveda, ashwagandha is a name which literally means "that which gives the vitality and sexual energy of a horse." It also produces Ojas which is suggested for general debility, nervous exhaustion, excessive weight loss, muscle energy loss, overwork, fatigue, and aging-related concerns.

How to consume these herbs?

Restorative herbs can be safely taken for weeks or months, you can take it either in the morning or before sleep to gradually rebuild spent reserves of vitality. You must know the uses of power herbs - which are not stimulants but natural vitalizes that work to spark energy reserves into full expression, without the draining effect of caffeinated stimulants (coffee & soda). They should be taken prior to your daily workout or yoga practice, as they both nourish and vitalize the body having no long-term exhausting effect.

Cordyceps mushroom – locate only in the Tibetan Himalayas, the power herb Cordyceps mushroom has been highly recommended by some Ayurvedic practitioners as it helps in increasing physical endurance by strengthening the adrenals and lungs for more effective breathing and a more sustainable burn of energy.

Siberian ginseng – is another most preferred variety of ginseng which is beneficial for every athletic or yogic practitioner. It creates energy and endurance by converting reserves of fat into carbohydrates that help both in fatigue and weight loss. Older, wild ginseng roots, when available nearby, are worth the additional cost as they contain more energy and the added benefits of opening the heart center. Bala means "strength-giving," is traditionally classified as a Rasayana herb which has some mild stimulant properties and one can find it a more useful herb.

Important Note – Enhance your strength by trying these herbs for a healthier alternative. You may be surprised by seeing a wonderful power herbal medicine will make your workout more energetic. Remember to consult your physician before taking these or any other herbs.
