Why You Should Try Ayurvedic Triphala?

Why You Should Try Ayurvedic Triphala?

“The great thing about Ayurveda is that its treatments always yield side benefits, not side effects.”

Ayurveda is considered as one of the most ancient and well-documented systems of medicine equally important in recent times. The Sanskrit term Ayurveda is commonly referred to “knowledge of life,” and the principles of this philosophy remind us that the entire vicious circle of life is blended closely in detail. Knowing about a disease in Ayurveda is mainly based on 3 Doshas, which are present in nature and also in our bodies: Vata(Air), Pitta(Fire), and Kapha(Water). These doshas are believed to be responsible for a person’s emotional, mental and psychological health.

What is Triphala?

The herbal concoction of three medicinal plants: Amla(also known as Embelica officinalis), Haritaki(also known as Terminalia chebula) and Bibhitaki(also known as Terminalia bellirica)  which are native to India, is commonly referred to as ‘Triphala’. As the name suggests, the word too suggests the meaning, ‘combination of three dried fruits’. Triphala treats a variety of different health issues and prevent chronic diseases. Triphala is one of the longest-used herbs in the world, as it was used way back to 1500 BCE, says references. The powder is slightly gritty in feel and yellowish-brown in color.

Benefits of Triphala:

Generally, Triphala is treated as an Ayurvedic medicine as a tonic to aid digestion. Each of the three fruits constituting Triphala corresponds to one of the doshas of the Ayurveda and hence making it suitable for all types of body and constitutions. Guided by most of the Ayurvedic practitioners, it is advised to take a spoon daily as it aids general imbalances and supports immune health.

In addition to the above points, Triphala is also mixed with other herbs or ready-made products like, hair, nail and skin support capsules to maximize its health benefit. It can also  be used with body care products like herbal face mask.

Methods for intake of Triphala:

This herb tastes bitter, sour, pungent and astringent all at the same time, which our taste buds can’t bear. Depending upon your preference, your choice, Triphala can be taken in different ways. It is always suggested to take Triphala before going to bed, but it can be taken earlier, if needed.

Following are a few methods to take Triphala:

Take it dry and swallow with water: Take ½ teaspoon of Triphala and place it towards the back of your tongue and wash it down with a cup of lukewarm water. If you position the powder like this before inhaling, you will not be able to get the taste of it much and easy for you to gulp it down in one big sip.

Take it in the form of capsules: Either you bring a capsule making machine for transforming the powder into capsule, or if you’re running a short of time, you can buy readymade organic Triphala capsules from the market. Take one capsule everyday with lukewarm water or as advised by your practitioner.

Mix it with water: Take about ½ teaspoon of Triphala powder and mix it with ¼ cup of lukewarm water and sip.

Mix it  with honey or something sweet: In case, the above three methods are too unsavory, you can mix ½ teaspoon Triphala powder with a spoonful of honey or ¼ cup of any sweet juice.
